Luke Bodensteiner

A Wisconsin native, Luke raced for the University of Utah from 1989-1993, winning individual NCAA titles in 1990 and 1993. He competed in the 1992 and 1994 Olympic Games. Retiring from ski racing in 1996, the US Ski Team hired Luke to lead its cross country program, and in 2003 he was appointed director of all Nordic teams, leading them to a record-setting 6 medals at a single World Championship.

After his run as Nordic director, Luke was appointed to run the US Ski Team’s sport science and medicine programs, and in 2007 was named executive VP of athletics and then chief of sport, leading three Olympic teams that won a total of 53 Olympic medals. This set the world record for the most medals won by a national ski and snowboard team in a single Games (21).

Luke was a Trustee of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Games, where he helped form the Soldier Hollow Legacy Foundation which operates cross country ski and biathlon venues. In 2009, Luke served as chairman on the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation board for 7 years until resigning in 2019 to become chief of sport development and general manager of Soldier Hollow. He is the author of Endless Winter and creator of the US SuperTour series of national races, the highest level of US domestic racing.
