High Performance Coach
Classification: Full-Time (May 1 Start)
Reports to: Team Birkie Head Coach & Managing Director
Location: Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid; primary residence may be outside Minneapolis, with periodic in-person presence required)
Travel: Approximately 3 months per year

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE
The Team Birkie High Performance Coach supports the delivery of high-quality training, competition preparation, and athlete development within a collaborative Nordic skiing program. This role works closely with the Head Coach and support staff to assist athletes across development and elite levels while contributing to the daily operations and long-term growth of the program. The position is designed to accommodate a wide range of coaching experience, offering meaningful responsibility, professional development, and exposure to high-performance training environments.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Coaching & Athlete Development
Support daily on-snow and off-snow training sessions for Team Birkie athletes.
Assist with planning and delivery of training sessions in collaboration with the Head Coach.
Provide technical feedback and performance support during practices and competitions.
Support athlete development through consistent communication and presence.
Assist with individual athlete training review, including analysis of training logs and performance trends.
Training, Camps, and Competition Support
Assist with supervision and execution of training sessions, camps, and competitions.
Support travel and race operations, including scheduling, transportation, and daily logistics.
Provide hands-on assistance with equipment preparation, waxing support, and ski testing.
Support race-day operations such as timing, splits, feed zones, and athlete support.
Performance & Program Support
Assist with collection and analysis of performance data, including video review and workout or race metrics.
Contribute to the implementation and refinement of training systems and operational processes.
Support coordination between coaching, service, and administrative staff.
Community Engagement & Development Pathways
Serve as a positive ambassador for Team Birkie and Nordic skiing.
Assist with athlete recruitment and outreach efforts.
Support regional and national development initiatives when applicable.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate regularly with the Head Coach regarding athlete needs, training loads, and observations.
Contribute to a respectful, athlete-centered team environment.
Collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and external partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to ski, run, bike, or otherwise move with athletes during training sessions.
Ability to work a hybrid schedule while maintaining consistent in-person presence in Minneapolis.
Ability to travel, including nights and weekends, during training and competition seasons.
Ability to lift and transport skis, waxing equipment, and training supplies.
Ability to work outdoors in winter conditions for extended periods.
Ability to pass SafeSport background check and maintain required coaching certifications.
COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE
Coaching experience in Nordic skiing or endurance sports at the developmental, collegiate, or high-performance level.
Strong interest in athlete development and long-term progression.
Ability to cross-country ski, run, and/or bike to support training and ski testing.
Experience working within a team-based coaching or sport environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
Professional demeanor and strong work ethic.

COMPENSATION
Salary: $50,000–$60,000 annually, with the potential for higher compensation based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated expertise.
Benefits: 4 weeks paid time off annually
